How it works
A course is delivered through a Shopify product. Alva Courses watches for paid orders containing a linked product and enrols the buyer the moment the order is paid. A course can have several linked products, and one product can be linked to several courses — buying it enrols the customer in every course it is linked to, which is how you sell a bundle (see Sell a course through several products, variants or bundles). You can link a whole product, so every variant grants access, or a single variant.
Link steps
1. Open the course
In the Shopify admin, open Alva Courses and click the course you want to sell. Make sure the course is published, not in draft, so learners can access it after purchase.
2. Open the course settings
On the course page, open the Settings tab, then Pricing & access. The Linked Products card lists every product that grants access to this course. The product the course was created with is marked Primary, and the course price you set under Pricing & Access is that product's price.
3. Add a Shopify product
Click Add Product and choose a product in the Shopify product picker. Select the whole product so every variant grants access, or a single variant to link only that variant. The price must suit the course's pricing type: a One Time Purchase course needs a product priced above zero, and a Free or Free With Account course needs a product priced at zero.
4. Check the link
There is nothing to save: the product is linked as soon as you select it and appears in the Linked Products card. For a product with several variants, click Modify Variants to change which variants grant access. To unlink a product, click Remove, or deselect all of its variants in Modify Variants. A course always keeps at least one linked product. To sell a bundle, link the same product to each course it should unlock.
5. Confirm automatic enrolment
When a customer pays for an order containing a linked product, Alva Courses enrols them automatically in every course that product is linked to. No manual step is needed. It also sends the enrolment email once Send enrollment emails is ticked in Settings → Email Settings; it starts unticked. If one order enrols them in more than one course, they get a single email listing every new course.
What learners see
After paying, the learner receives a branded enrolment email with a "Start Learning Now" button, if you have switched enrolment emails on, and the course appears under "My Courses" in their Shopify customer account. With the checkout extensions enabled, they can also start learning straight from the thank-you and order status pages.
