How it works
The Video block plays from a source you choose: an upload to Alva Video Hosting or Shopify Files, or a pasted YouTube, Vimeo or Loom link. YouTube and Vimeo also have blocks of their own — see Embed YouTube, Vimeo or Loom videos. Either way the video appears in the branded storefront course player — no extra setup for students.
Add a video block
1. Open the lesson editor
In the Shopify admin, open Alva Courses, select your course, and click the lesson you want to add video to. The rich lesson editor opens with its content blocks and toolbar.
2. Add a Video block
Click Add Content and choose Video. On the Unlimited Pro plan the block has two tabs, Shopify Files and Alva Video Hosting; on other plans it shows the Shopify Files upload area and the link field only.
3. Upload or paste your video
On the Alva Video Hosting tab, click Upload New Video to upload a file, or Choose from Library to reuse one from your Video Library. On Shopify Files, drop in an MP4, MOV or WebM file — Shopify limits these to 1 GB and 10 minutes — or paste a YouTube, Vimeo or Loom link into Or paste video URL. Alva Courses builds the player for you — no embed code editing needed.
4. Save and preview
Click Save, then use the storefront preview to confirm the video plays inside the course player. When it looks right, publish the lesson.
What learners see
Enrolled students watch the video in the storefront course player, alongside the sidebar lesson list, progress bar and completion ticks. There's no second login or external platform — playback stays inside your Shopify store.
